How Can I Start Introducing Test Automation?

There's a big correlation between the organizational structure and the architecture. So for example, in teams where they have full stack developers that do everything from the UI through the service side up to the database or anything. And so it's very dependent upon the skills within the organization. Are there different ways in which the teams can be split up? I'm thinking vertical and horizontal separation might affect how the tests get written.
