I want to try and establish where Star Trek is or should be politically in the present day so much has changed since the mid 1960s, not least the growth of things like postcolonial studies. So yes, I think Star Trek comes out of a sort of Wild Western Space fantasy, it's still in negotiation with that. And every time it's pushing forward, pushing forward, right, so now we have Star Trek Discovery, which has got a married gay couple, which is a wonderful thing to see in the show.
