The CBO Forecasts Gross Federal Debt for 2031 - That's Almost 40% Too Low
The CBO, when it forecasts that number 10 years out, is on average almost 40% too low. As of their last forecast, which was July of 2021, so roughly six months ago, the CBO forecasted that debt for 2031 would be $41 trillion. The deficit 10 years from now is going to be about the size of federal revenues today. It's ignoring unfunded obligations, which who knows what those are other than their gargantuan even beyond this.
