The Importance of Forgiveness

I could not truly believe the first truth without believing the second. Jesus, when he says, forgive them for they know not what they do, that he was only thinking at that point of the soldiers who were crucifying him. They would have been less culpable because they were really responsible to someone else. This is not a case where they had chosen really in that realm or that way. President Monson used to love to quote George Herbert, an early 17th century poet who wrote these lines: He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass if he would ever reach heaven.
