Emmett Till - A Photograph of a Shockingly Black Boy
Emmett Till was lynched after being accused of whistling at a white woman. His mother insisted on an open casket at his funeral so the world could witness what had been done to him. A photograph of his brutalized face was published on the front cover of Jet magazine. The poet Patricia Smith remembered the impact of that page.
