The Putney Putney Debates - The Agreement of the People

Many of the lower level soldiers, who came from more modest backgrounds, may be minor merchants or laborers, they wanted to see england become a more equal society. And so these more radical soldiers were called levellers. Might they become a sort of semi organized party. The leaders of the levellers put forward a petition called the agreement of the people. They didn't necessarily saya civil rights or natural rights, the kind of phrases that are used in later centuries. But they argued that these were rights that they deserved and that should be protected against tyranny.
