Marco, his family and a number of others escape by the skin of their teeth. Others are not so lucky and find themselves captured and sold into slavery or put to death where they stand. Marco is delighted to find himself in civilization again - but elation quickly fades when he finds that the wooden hulls on offer are stitched together with thin threads from cocoanut husks.
