Narcissism

The formal diagnosis of narcissism began with Freud and different schools of psychology. The essential features of any personality disorder are impairments in self and interpersonal functioning. A narcissist may be unable to set goals that are realistic or separate their goals from the approval of others. Their personal standards are often unreasonably high in order to maintain the idea that they are exceptional.
