The Desire for the True, the Good and Beautiful Is Eros

Eros, he says, is the upward impulse of the human spirit towards the true, the good, the beautiful. We don't want to be lied to. That's eros. Even if somebody shows up at your door at three in the morning, the police say, you know, something terrible has happened, even then, you don’t want to be told a lie. When you encounter just an act of human goodness, it brings a tear to your eye, it just moves you.
