Lindeloff wasn't attached to this film to direct it. He had his writing partner and this idea which appeared somewhere. Maybe it was an entirely fresh concept, entirely fresh concept that Lucasfilm felt like the best idea would be then to use as a vehicle for Ray's story. But remember when we went to Star Wars celebration and we saw the props and the costumes from Forza Wakens for the first time? It was 2015. So quickly these things can change.
