The buy nothing groups are more about questioning the assumptions than it is about giving a prescription. And I think intentionality can be applied to advice or ideas like this in a way that makes it healthy. So when you understand the why behind a person strategy, it may not follow that their exact goal matches up with yours but you could find something useful there.
