Boulevard wanted South America to be one republic, but it wasn't going to happen. The nations were simply just too divided amongst his supporters and detractors. A civil war was constantly on the back burner. He suffered from tuberculosis for years, and this became worse and worse than worse. On April of 1830, Boulevard was disillusioned with all of it and pretty much gave up. So, he set aside the presidency and decided that he was going to go off into exile in Europe.
