The Difference Between Ascribed Status and Achieved Status

Achieved status means that your status is based on what you have accomplished. Ascribed status is a status that is given to you. You could be born with it or you could be given it by the society or the organization. In organizations, we often find leaders that have ascribed status. And so they're insecure about that. Those artifacts become so important to them that they want to hide behind those. There's a real sense of imposter syndrome.
