This is not wishful thinking, but is built on the inexorable, this time demographic ones. These cycles are driven by deep demographic forces that build ascendant coalitions. The oldest millennials are just hitting ther fifties, and they're pretty much running everything. There's other inexorables too, growing numbers of people of color. Immigrants tend to have higher birth rates. And cities correlate to being more cosmopolitan and more progressive.
