Evolution Is Not a Straight Line

Teachers were teaching us to laugh at science and scientists. It was really a defense mechanism for bad ideas. The way evolution works is not a straight line, it's a tangled bush with all sorts of branches. Sometimes the species just shifts and changes, but we still call it the same species. And if you can think your way halfway out of a paper bag, then you're a better scientist than these people who say all these crazy nuanced things.
