The Role of Parental Assistance in the Transition to Home Ownership
A study found that living in a rent-free home led to a three-fold increase in the chance of entering home ownership compared to someone in the private rental market trying to save up a deposit. While 74% of first home buyers lived in private rentals before their purchase, 13.4% had been co-reciting with their parents. A further 4.5% had been living in rent-free dwellings provided by family or friends like an investment property or a holiday home in my business.
