Do the Fed Need to Be More Aggressive?
The Fed has slowed the rate increases from 75 to 50. On February 1st, it was slowed further to 25 basis points. That leaves open the talk about when it's all going to come to an end. The markets were talking about a pass, market was talking about a decline in the interest rate later in the year. Then we get these two inflation numbers and people say, Oops, we are surprised. How did that happen? It all happened because the Fed, which was asleep at the switch during a good part of 2021, saying that the inflation was transitory,. kept increasing the balance sheet, and keeping interest rates at near zero still has not learned its lesson.
