The authors also conducted a power analysis based on the incidence of aspiration of 1 in 13,819 in patients with tracheal intubation. They calculated that to demonstrate an increase in 25% in the rate of pulmonary aspiration with LMAs, they would have to randomize over 3 million patients per group.
