Lobster Fishing Is Everything

The sibaganagoty band began fishing outside of commercial seasons and without licenses last fall. They say the way they were fishing couldn't possibly pose a conservation threat. There have been weeks of demonstrations and sometimes violent altercations as large crowds of commercial fishermen descended on the wharves where sibeganagadig fishers kept their boats. The department of fisheries and oceans says they are committed to implementing treaty rights, but in the meantime, they've taken a hard stand against anyone fishing out of season.
