The Importance of Isolation
Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci spent more than 10 years in prison from 1926 until his death in 1937. He died in prison and about a decade afterward became posthumously famous through the publication of his celebrated prison notebooks. Why do we choose to isolate ourselves when in our criminal justice system isolation is punishment for being found guilty of breaking the law? Is it simply convenience or do we really not have a choice.
