Cilia are receptors that pick up chemical, osmotic or mechanical information to feedback and tell the body what's happening there. The location of where this happens is in the embryo. In the bilemonodisc, you start to have these cluster of cells starting to form. By the time it gets to the uterus at about a week, these group of cells cluster into two bands of tissue or two clumps of tissue,. one on top of each other. Two clumps of cells. Of embryological development. Yeah.
One of the four tissue types of the body, epithelia lines and protects our organs from the external and internal environment. In this episode, Dr Matt & Dr Mike explain how the different shape and layers of epithelia tell you what function it performs (form = functions) and highlight examples in the body where you can find each type. They also explore cancer, metaplasia, dysplasia, and Dr Matt's mums skin cancer diagnosis and surgery.
