Most people misread this song due to a beautiful song that was put out in the 70s. The imagery is of a deer in the desert who is dying of thirst and comes to the river to drink, but it's bone dry. In the Psalm, thirst is a bad thing, not a good thing. It's something we don't want, not do. We feel more of God's absence than His presence.
