The History of Cholera
The first mention of cholera comes from the father of Western medicine himself, Hippocrates. In around 500 BC, he uses the word cholera to describe an intestinal illness that causes diarrhea. It wasn't until the early 1800s that the word was directly linked to one disease caused by one organism - the cholera bacterium.
