Under stand's a lot of concern now for what happens to women and girls in the country. How worried should we be? And is there anything the international community can do to help on that score? Ye. I mean, obviously, after two thousand and one, there was his narrative of girls going back to chool... For other women, life didn't change at all. So certainly, in places like helmond, there was very little change in the lives of the women i met from the talevan era jus. There just wasn't. That has to do with cultural norms specific to that place ind have to do a lot of things.

While the Taliban have the power of violence on their side in Afghanistan, they nonetheless need civilians to comply with their authority. Both strategically and by necessity, civilians have leveraged this reliance on their obedience in order to influence Taliban behaviour.
