What Makes Text So Hard?

Text is much more pervasive than the kind of just the one language that most of us interact with on our phone. One of the things that really surprised me when I joined the text team is how many things are O of N and can't be less than O of N in the text stack. And so there's just a whole lot of O of N loops that happen between text U, okay, and actually getting okay to the rest on the screen.
