EPISODE 95: Tom Le Forge: The Real Dances with Wolves

History on Fire

CHAPTER

The Crow Tribe, by Mitch Boyer

Mitch Boyer was actually part Lakota in French, but he married into the crow tribe and even became a soldier for a while. And for all intents and purposes, he had become a crow. His family moves to Bozeman, Montana by 1865, and Tom is about 15 years old. The crows were often pitching their tippies close to town. They would at least visit occasionally to trade with the settlers there. So in the course of these visits, Tom himself got acquainted with some members of the crow tribe. A preacher also was with our train. He held religious services, and these were well attended. But he protested against the dancing to no avail.
