The History of the German Empire
Austria and Brandenburg were former militarized border zones originally established to protect the empire against Slavic and Magyar raiders. Despite their subsequent importance as hereditary possessions of the Habsburgs and Huan Solons respectively neither became a kingdom. Prussia's distinct status provided the basis for a separate Huan-Sollen royal identity after 1700, something that set them apart from other German princely families.
