There was no compelling reason back when I was growing up to visit Tulsa and that allowed it to be preserved in a way that was true to itself. Now, you go to Tulsa for the Dylan Center or Leon Russell's studio or the Guthrie Center which is this amazing park by the Arkansas River. It just was authentic to itself without the distraction of needing to please outsiders. But also, if there were outsiders that were coming for the rodeo, they were right. There was a, like a rodeo culture and there was cowboy culture, but that's not nothing.
