The Fear of Witches
Pamphlets talked about the idea that these younger r daughters of ches were becoming scholars of the devil through their mothers. And it's this anxiety that in a country meant to be built on patriarchal structures, there's something so threatening about matriarchal households. In england, the emphasis was on those demonic household familiars, those pets. While in scotland, there were more sort of mainland european ideas about witches as able to fly and work the weather.
