Is This a Viral Component of Animal Genomes?

Fascinating to view this virus like behavior at the at the cell level in light of what we know about the macro effects of the arcgene. Though a very interesting thing is, though s of animals have arc they are not all descended from a common arc ancestor or at least not within the animal line. It appears that flies and vertebrates acquired these gen these similar genes, from different sources, in separate events that took place millions of years apart. And yet they've both got this stuff. So it seems like it is something that is probably liable to be coopted by by animal genomes in a way that is very useful.
