The Importance of Ethnocentrism

Brain and mind sciences can help us understand why this is. There are actually many different cognitive processes involved, many different biases. For example, humans naturally are biased towards the familiar. And we have a natural tendency to favor our in-group over others. Our mental autopilot is simply unfamiliar with the terrain. So it's no surprise that we can never really go beyond ethnocentrism. We will always be ignorant in a new cultural environment.
