The nasihat name and the work of figures such as cati celby are doing two things. They're giving us a kind of record of legibility, of what their perceptions of proper governments consisted of. As they were articulating crisis, they were also beginning to reflect on the history of the ottoman imperial system as a whole. And so this moment in which you begin to see an awareness of the importance of records and documents is one i was really interested in.
