Is There a Smooth Operation?

Todd: From the Hegelian perspective, there simply wouldn't be a smooth operation. It would all be seeming. Why use that word? And yet it does feel like there is. What we don't see in the phone is the thing that makes it into an object in the first place. So I think in a certain way, the ideal of the smooth operation is the fetish that obscures the lack that makes that operation possible.
