There is no political willingness for austerity, which means spending less by government. We need a productivity revolution, and while the productivity revolution is not impossible, it is unlikely,. And we need a major technological break, so we can always hope for that. But it's not something that a policymaker can plan on sitting back waiting for high levels of real growth. That then takes us to default, but defaulting on your debt isn't good for growth.
