How to Write a Good Phrase

Veritas is revising its curriculum. Do you teach the kids the stuff? Do you read it with some of your students? So I try to distill these into exercises they do in writing lab that deal with little pieces of it. It's one of the more boring ones but use the active voice. Now this includes a little bit of grammar but the passive voice is when the subject of the sentence is the thing being acted upon, not the thing doing the action.
