Pairing knowledge means pairing problems to solutions. We ask a problem in a domain and the document in which we are searching for solution is from nature. If you could associate these two pieces of knowledge, it helps the engineers to pop out a solution that they probably wouldn't have had if they would have been in a brainstorming situation on their own.
