The Impact of the Egyptians on Canaan
The Egyptians had tried to impose their rule with a combination of garrisons, way stations and administrative centers. They were far more involved with the cities than with the rural areas where they didn't rule directly. The ancient DNA studies have shown that there were migrants, probably of Aegean origin in 12th century BC Philistia. Some squeezed by the Egyptian yoke moved from the lowlands into the highlands.
