Introduction
For most of history, europe was far more patriarchal than matrilennial southeast asia and southern africa. In the former female chastity was tightly policed while in the latter women moved more freely. The great gender divergence rally occurred in the twentieth century when firms ran out of qualified men so recruited women on mass. But this progress towards gentrequality was contingent and varied with strong growth, weak kinship and democtization.
