The Mass Amnesia of the Financial Crisis
I think it's this mass amnesia that happened in the 70s and 80s, right? There was a big debate during the financial crisis about whether to break up the big banks. Sweden had a financial crisis in the early 1990s and they effectively broke up their banks. And so there was a debate about whether we should do what was called the Swedish solution or whether we should just bail out the banks. So I ended up going to Sweden with a friend. It turned out he was the guy that had done the bank regulation in the 1990s when they broke up their Banks. He said, oh, well, we just copied what Frank Lydell Roosevelt did in the 30s
