The author, jack dear, wrote three books on the presence and power of the holy spirit. His most recent book is a memoir, which is titled even in our darkness. In that book he tells the story of his son's suicide and his wife's subsequent plunge into alcoholism. He writes: for decades i had preached that the mystery of suffering would always elude our understanding. It was an easy thing to say, until the weight of that mystery crushed me.
