Zen is practised using meditation as a primary exercise. The root of all suffering is attachment, according to buddhism. To pursue this ideal to its logical conclusion actually doesn't work because there is an attachment created none the less. So zen is very interesting in the sense that it is very experiential. Its very it ebbs and it flows. It's not about being completely unattached or following a doctrine or philosophy to t but it's more about the experience.
