How to Monitor Your Athletes' Recovery
The critical times obviously are post the weekend football or the weekend sport. The other critical times are before the main training session the week which in most football teams is a couple of days before the next game. We also cycle the training load on any given individual so that we have recovery weeks usually about every third or fourth week. If a person is in the third week of a hard cycle and they're rating pretty poorly on the wellness measures that's a sign for us that we better slow down a bit or we're heading for breakdown.
