In the olden days, all armies, army families travelled by ship. Nobody could afford to fly by air. The journeys were long and far. On Sundays they used to clear the dining room and make it into a kind of chapel. There was no such thing as television or anything like that. And being given an orange every day, obviously against scurvy, since... I mean now when you look at the range of fruit and the way that ships are, these were old tin tubs. These were working pack horses of ships.
