"I think that ephemerality is part of what offends us. If you're approaching the world as like some sort of puzzle to figure out or some sort of thing, where if you pull these levers, this will happen," she says. "It's really crucial for me to let go of my kids and let them become the next thing they are going to be."
If only you had 15 more minutes, or were 5 years younger, or a year into the future — then, things would be better. Maybe even *you* would be better.
But maybe time is more than a sparring partner. More than something you curse or see as a thief. It might just be an integral part of what it means to be human.
