Nietzsche's Metaphor for Philosophy

Nietzsche says there was a point in every philosophy when the philosopher's conviction appears on the stage or to use the language of an ancient mystery, adventavit asinis. He can even do this with a figure like Epicurus that Nietzsche has great respect for. And so he can even doThis, this new method of reorienting our understanding of a given philosophy by psychologizing about the philosopher based on what is driving him and then evaluating him from that standpoint.
