In the rainforest, people interact with their environment in a much more fearful and respectful way that gives them already a good head start on managing harmoniously balanced ways. If you grow up in a culture based on consumerism and exploitation of resources, indiscriminately, this would be looked down as pathology. The world is not a collection of objects to be exploited for human gain, but a community of subjects with which you interact horizontally. Sentience, intelligence, agency, intentionality, the capacity to feel and whole projects and get mad and feel sad and feel joyful are all part of an Amazonian worldview.
