You need to always have your documents prepared in advance. Don't go rummaging around in the car while the guy is walking up to your but prepare in advance. Best place for your documents to be is on top of your visor, of your son visor, or some place where you know where they are. And as long as they're not heavily tinted, et cetera, that way the police officer can see into the vehicle.
