The Rise and Fall of Benito Diaz

At age 19, Portfillo Diaz drops out of seminary and joins the liberal faction. He emerges as a quite influential and successful general in the liberal army. In 1861, Benito Juarez became president of Mexico, the same year that Abraham Lincoln became president of the United States. Both were defenders of a vision of equality and liberation.
