Many schools then took on additional duties so maybe quite ad hoc um maybe liaising with charities or running boot repair classes for pupils. London County Council in this period and the Board of Education nationally really raved about the success of their child welfare programs. One of my favorite examples is from a magazine called label woman which was a magazine for label women that ran children's competitions every month. In 1926 it asked it ran a children's competition it asked for drawings under the heading of school after the holidays and one of the winning entries was a nine-year-old from London who'd captioned it getting fit after the holidays.
