The Importance of Power in Human Rights
The existing system really reinforces the powerful groups against those who might be trying to advocate for rights of people and nature. So corporations are able to use the law to shield themselves from scrutiny. Jackie offered what was, at least to me, a surprising example of this. Even thinking about the US Constitution, it was written by slaveholders,. But we're still seeing that basic contradiction between what we think of as people's rights ... and the legal system that isn't set up to protect that right.
